The composition

Top

Black Pepper

Heart

Lily, Tuberose, Heliotrope, Narcissus

Base

Ebony Wood, Santal Milk, Patchouli, Musk

The star ingredient

Lily

The Lily is one of perfumery’s “silent flowers”: no essence or absolute can be extracted from it, so Isabey’s perfumers recreate its scent as closely as possible. In Lys Noir, stirred by Black Pepper, it unfolds through Tuberose and Narcissus.

The story

The first Isabey, 1924

The first fragrance to bear the Isabey label took its name from Le Lys Noir, a French tall ship, and was presented in a bottle and coffret by Julien Viard and the Sorys house. Alongside Gardénia and La Route d’Emeraude, it created the prestige of the brand.
Jean Jacques, perfumer

The perfumer

Jean Jacques

A jazz pianist at sixteen, Jean Jacques discovered perfume at twenty. For him, music and perfume share the same vocabulary of composition and notes.
Also by Jean Jacques for Isabey: Tendre Nuit, Gardénia, Fleur Nocturne and La Route d’Emeraude.
